A couple weekends ago, I made plans to spend an afternoon with my friend Rhea. We both talked that week about needing new running shoes so we decided to make a lunch and shoe shopping date.
We went to Run On! in McKinney, which is a local franchise of running stores. I’ve heard a lot of good things about their selection and their staff and since I was a budding running junkie, I decided there was no better place to shop than amongst other running junkies.
When we arrived, we added ourselves to the wait list to get fitted, and even though it was a bit of a wait (there were already a couple people there before us) it gave me a chance to browse the other fitness merchandise. It was a runner’s paradise. Running gear like socks, belts, clothing, bras (gotta go back for one of those)… so many things to look at that I was mentally adding to my wish list.
My sales consultant was friendly and professional. He asked me what kind of activity I needed shoes for, analyzed my gait by having me walk from one end of the floor to the other. We determined I had a neutral arch so he brought out a few pairs of shoes for me to try in my size.
After some trial and error, I ended up with a pair of Brooks Dyad 8s. They were SO unbelievably comfortable and cushioned, it felt like walking on sand. And although they weren’t the most expensive shoes I’ve purchased, they were definitely the most expensive running shoes I’ve purchased.
In addition to the shoes, I also purchased a pair of running socks with arch support from Feetures. They’re actually really quite cute and look great with my Brooks.
After shopping, we were starving and since we were in McKinney, Rhea suggested we go to Hutchins BBQ. I’ve heard good things about it but I’m almost never in the area so of course we had to go.
Diet or no diet, I wasn’t gonna eat chicken like a sissy! I pulled out all the stops: pork ribs, tender fatty brisket, baked beans and broccoli salad. All if it was amazing, and the broccoli salad was exactly how broccoli should be served: tossed in mayonnaise, bacon and lots of cheese. We sat outside on picnic tables in the sunshine while chatting, laughing and enjoying our food. It was so much fun–the calories were totally worth it.
